[Dalek Mod Suggestion] Overhaul: Obtaining a Tardis in the Dalek Mod [Tardis Coral, Artron Energy]

Background:

Show content

I have a number of reasons behind this suggestion. The first being a reference to the Minecraft achievements system, which takes the player along a journey and records each major step through an achievement event. In the Dalek Mod, the Tardis is a powerful tool and has many functionalities and therefore obtaining one is a major milestone for the player.

The other one is that I feel that the Tardis is currently too easy and illogical to obtain. As of Update 45, the Tardis is crafted with a few lapis blocks and diamonds etc. in a crafting table, and on the server, bought in a shop with credits that are easily farmed. To me, this doesn’t seem like the most proper way of obtaining a very special milestone in the Dalek Mod.

The Tardis is a complicated piece of living machinery, and should therefore have a much more complicated process to be able to obtain it. Not only is the Tardis special, having a more complex process gives the player a more rewarding experience and makes this achievement something really special. Crafting a Tardis, then losing it makes Tardises seem expendable and really detracts from its special place in the Doctor Who Universe.

There have been suggestions in the past which suggest crafting a Tardis using parts collected on Gallifrey, the latter of which can be accessed via certain methods. (Mentioned by Arcphoenix and Quartz563)

The other prominent suggestion discusses Tardis being constructed from parts being salvaged from damaged/dead Tardises (as shown in doe_killer’s suggestion).

One method I’m interested in exploring is growing a Tardis.

There isn’t very much information on this process and since the Dalek Mod is based but not limited to Doctor Who’s canonicity, I feel the growing process could be explored and expanded in addition to being suitable for implementation in a Minecraft Mod.

Feature Function:

A way to obtain the Tardis that delves into a relatively unexplored area of the Doctor Who Universe and takes more work from the player.

From what we know, the Tardis is a living biomechanical being rather than a machine.

A genuine and legitimately grown Tardis is created as a space-time event via the use of complex mathematical equations known as Block-Transfer Computations.

This space-time event is created in a null-zone called Hyper Looms and connected to the Eye of Harmony.

After being connected to the Eye of Harmony, the Space-Time Event is moved to a set of construction docks at the Gallifrey Black hole Shipyard to complete its growth, in a Dimensionally Transcendental Cradle, which gives the capsule its energy source

Its sentience is created via more Block Transfer Computations.

The exterior and interiors are then created via Warp Matrix Engineering.

“After spending a decade in the cradles they are moved to the Solar Workshops, where several pieces of exitonic circuitry are implanted by the Time Lords.

  • Exitonic circuits are made of a type of metal that has many of the characteristics of plastic. Examples of  implants include the Temporal Drive and Chameleon Circuit.

The circuits are similar to human chromosones in determining a Tardis’ gender. If the Capsule is designated female, it will receive XX circuits and if male, XY circuits. The Tardis is now fully functional.” ~Whoniverse

Finally, the functional Tardises are piloted to a Berthing Bay in the Dry Dimension Dockyard Cradles on Gallifrey and registered. From here, this Tardis is able to be paired with a Time Lord pilot via a Symbiotic Nuclei, a neural connection between the two organisms.

Contrary to popular belief, a Tardis is not grown via “Tardis Coral”, as it is a clipping of an existing female Tardis. This process is known as Tardis Cloning, a concept I intend to explore.

Features

In the Dalek Mod, the player is not a Time lord but is a human. Therefore they will not have access to this knowledge nor the technology to create Tardises the traditional way.

Instead, the player is able to clone a Tardis using a fist-sized cutting of a female Tardis, colloquially known as “Tardis Coral”.

Tardis Coral

Show content

Description: Tardis Coral are cuttings of an existing Tardis

Properties:

·         The Tardis coral can be placed on any dirt/grass block.

·         One piece of Tardis coral will grow into one Tardis. This Tardis’ owner will be the player who placed the piece of Tardis coral.

How to obtain it:

·         It can be found occasionally in chests located in Crashed Tardises.

·         Players may need to search multiple Crashed Tardises to find a piece of Tardis Coral

Crashed Tardises

Show content

Description:

·         These damaged Tardises will spawn as generated structures in the Overworld, with a spawn rate comparative to those of a Desert Temple. (~suggested by Rick)

Lore:

  • Over time, some Tardises have been damaged and have crashed onto the Overworld.
  • Crashed Tardises can vary in shape and form, by being a collection of random Tardis-related blocks such as Roundels, floor blocks etc.
  • Crashed Tardises will spawn with many hostile mobs, as races such as Daleks guarding these structures in hopes of using Time Lord technology to further their own goals. This gives the player another challenge to overcome, adding another layer of reward when this process is finally completed.
  • Tardis Coral can be found in chests hidden around these structures, along with other vital Tardis componenets such as Chameleon Circuits etc.
  • Once the player finds a crashed Tardis, fights off the hostile mobs and is lucky enough to find a piece of Tardis Coral, they then proceed to grow it.

Growing the Tardis Coral

Show content

After being obtained, Tardis Coral now requires an energy source. Traditionally Tardises are fed artron energy from Dimensional Dry Docks, but since the player does not have access to one, they must collect this artron energy themselves.

  1. Plant Tardis Coral on dirt block
  2. Feed it Artron energy via keybind
  3. If there is no artron energy given by the player, the Tardis coral will not continue to grow.
  4. When it is given the energy, it will grow.
  5. Growth stages are represented by different textures of Tardis coral
    1. 1st Stage: Tardis Coral clipping
    2. 2nd Stage: Taller Coral with more branches
    3. 3rd Stage: Large mass of coral, like End Chorus Fruit trees
    4. 4th Stage: Darkened Coral colour into grey
    5. 5th Stage Exterior begins to form; becomes circular
    6. 6th Stage: TT Capsule exterior created

Equipping the fully grown Tardis

  1. Once fully grown, the Tardis capsule will now allow entry to the player.
  2. The Tardis coral block will be replaced by a TT Capsule exterior block.
  3. To make the Tardis capable of time and space travel, the player must create and install some vital components. These include:

Vital Tardis Components:

Time Vector Generator:

Function: A long ebony wand that allows the player to access the interior via the exterior shell.

Features:

  • This is placed in the exterior’s container GUI and will instantly allow access to the interior.
  • The DM Tardis exterior block will now have a hidden container GUI that allows the player to place a Time Vector Generator in it.
  • The player can shift( default sneak-key)+Right click the exterior to open the GUI.
  • Only the owner of the Tardis can open this GUI.
  • The owner can also remove the Time Vector Generator to prevent authorised access of their Tardis.
  • Upon entering, the Dalek Mod default interior will generate, but no console unit is provided.

Tardis Circuits Container: Tardis Primary Systems

Show content

Function:

A block with a container GUI that stores vital Tardis components.

This is like a special Tardis crafting bench.

Allows the Tardis to function by checking if vital components are arranged in a certain pattern

Features:

  • 3x3 Grid GUI
  • Checks if vital components are arranged in a certain pattern
  • The block is placed somewhere in the interior.
  • Its texture is invisible like that of a barrier block.
  • Can broken by pickaxes in survival
  • Invulnerable to any form of explosions, flowing water, lava or fire.
  • Craftable
  • Can be found occasionally in chests within Crashed Tardises
  • Can be seen using Sonic Shades (~Arcphoenix)

Tardis Circuits Container: Tardis Secondary Systems (~jh1226)

Show content

Function:

A block with a container GUI that stores optional Tardis components.

This is like a special Tardis crafting bench.

Similar to the Primary systems circuit container, this allows the Tardis to gain extra functionality

Features:

  • 3x3 Grid GUI
  • Components can be be arranged in any manner
  • The block is placed somewhere in the interior.
  • Its texture is invisible like that of a barrier block.
  • Can broken by pickaxes in survival
  • Invulnerable to any form of explosions, flowing water, lava or fire.
  • Craftable
  • Can be found occasionally in chests within Crashed Tardises
  • Can be seen using Sonic Shades (~Arcphoenix)

Original Suggestion:

Very detailed suggestion! But maybe you could add TARDIS optional system to the list which adds additional options to the TARDIS. For example, security systems, stealth mode, randomisers etc

Since the Tardis Coral is a clipping or offspring of a parent Tardis, its AI and other properties are retained. Therefore, its growing process will be able create all necessary components such as its outer plasmic shell and interior pocket dimension. Its power source, the Eye of Harmony will also be generated.

Artron Energy:

Show content

Description: Artron energy can be found in small pockets of blue particles “Visually, artron energy resembled a sort of blue electricity. “ ~Tardis Wikia.

Features:

  • Can be absorbed by the player similar to experience particles in Minecraft.
  • When near a certain of the growing Tardis coral, this collected artron energy is siphoned into the Tardis coral for its growth,
  • Siphoning resets the levels that the player has collected.
  • The Tardis coral requires a certain level of Artron energy and will have a certain texture for each major stage of its development, like a Minecraft crop.
  • Artron energy levels required could be 50 levels in total, like how the Minecraft experience system works.
  • Artron energy levels are kept upon player death, even if the keepInventory gamerule is not enabled.

Siphoning Artron Energy to the Tardis Coral

  • A player can do this via a keybind and the coral will absorb all artron energy particles within a 3 block radius.
  • To ensure that the player does not release this energy accidently, the release of energy is only true when the player is in a 3 block radius of a piece of Tardis coral.
  • If multiple Tardis corals are being grown in the general vicinity, the artron energy released by the player can also be absorbed by other Tardis coral pieces.
  • Therefore, it is advised by players to grow their Tardises away from other one, to prevent accidental release of energy to other Tardis.

  1. Now that the Tardis is capable of time-travelling etc., the player must have a way of piloting it.
  2. Now a player can build their own custom console and place any Tardis panels such as Flight panels, monitors, or handbrakes etc.
  3. In addition, the player can equip various optional Tardis panels that add extra functionality to the Tardis.
  4. This gives a use for the various modelled Tardis panels in the mod.
  5. The Tardis now has its own unique ID like in the mod’s current state and be summoned by a synced Tardis Key.

Limitations and other considerations:

Speeding up the growth process

  • Growing a Tardis from a piece of coral takes a long time as described in Doctor Who lore, and thus there must be a way to accelerate this so it won’t be become boring in a Minecraft mod.
  • Although non-canonical, Bottles of Enchanting or donating experience orbs can be used to speed up the growth of the Tardis coral by two Minecraft days.
  • Experience orbs contain memories, experiences and psychological energies accumulated by the player as they journey through the Minecraft world.
  • In this sense the Tardis coral can use it as an alternative form of energy.
  • However, it will not provide as much energy compared to artron energy.
  • In response to absorbing Artron energy, the Tardis coral growth can also be accelerated by the contribution of artron energy levels by other players, allowing for multiple players to contribute to growing a Tardis.
  • However, the owner of the Tardis is still the player who originally placed the piece of coral.

In creative mode

  • The existing Tardis items will be kept, and will generate a fully functional Tardis like the current ones.
  • The only difference is that they will all have a “Tardis Primary Systems” block placed in the interior with all vital components already in the container.

Summary

Show content

Long story short, this suggestion allows the Tardis to be obtained via growing a piece of Tardis Coral. The steps are:

  1. Finding crashed Tardises
  2. Killing off the hostile mobs
  3. Obtaining Tardis coral and/or vital Tardis system components
  4. Growing Tardis coral by collecting Artron Energy
  5. Growth can be sped up via Bottles of Enchanting/experience orbs/multiple players donating artron energy
  6. Make and install Time Vector Generator in the Tardis exterior’s GUI container
  7. Make and place Tardis Systems block inside the interior
  8. Place mandatory Tardis circuits inside Tardis Systems block
  9. Make console
  10. Place Tardis user input controls (Demat lever, monitor etc.)
  11. Done!

I would also like to reference the amazing ideas by Arcphoenix, Doe_killer and Quartz563. I loved their suggestions a lot and some parts of this suggestion is based on their’s.

For reference, here are the links to the mentioned threads:

Congraluations if you have read the entire suggestion! It is quite long, my apologies for that.

Due to how complex this is, should the team every be interested in implementing this, certain steps could be modified/ simplified according to the Team.

Feel free to post any feedback or give any criticism!

This is really cool. I once made a suggestion about this sorta thing, where, instead of the TARDIS being craftable, you would make a confession dial and go to Gallifrey and steal one (Inspiration from Heaven Sent and the Doctor's escapes from Gallifrey). Both these ideas could work together though. Say you hate grinding and crafting, you could go though the dial (punch a wall a load of times) and then steal a TARDIS (maybe the stolen ones could be faulty and need repairs) while people who don't want to punch through a wall and get massively frustrated can just use this method instead.

Very detailed suggestion! But maybe you could add TARDIS optional system to the list which adds additional options to the TARDIS. For example, security systems, stealth mode, randomisers etc

It's interesting how all the past Tardis obtainment suggestions are synergized here, which was done in a very great way. The original suggestions are really innovative and on their own, and many of the suggestions for specific purposes are more effective than their respective counterparts in other threads.

In particular, I really love the Circuit GUI. It's compact to take less space, but still requires a player to have more than one component (thus more work) for a fully functioning Tardis.

Suggestion: Perhaps the Primary systems block could be seen with Sonic Shades?

I think the crashed Tardis sites should be a bit more rare.

Maybe at desert temple/stronghold level?

Thanks for all the feedback so far! Going to reply to the comments in one large post.

That sounds like a great idea! I'll that to the post

Thanks! I agree with the suggestion, it's something I missed out on. Invisible blocks can be very hard to detect using just their hitbox!

Sounds good! I'll add it to the main post.

This has my support, and maybe the chameleon circuit thing of yours could use my idea from my suggestion. :) Just an idea.
