How to help SWD Community!

By Ben1Ben1

Hey All,

As staff one of the biggest things I get asked is "How can I help?". It is awesome that we are part of a community that is so eager to help in so many ways! I thought I'd write a post about some of the many ways you can help SWDTeam and the community!

Help with the Wikis!

If you are big fans of Dalek Mod or the War of the Worlds Mod, then why don't you help develop their wikis! It's very easy to do (even I can do it). All you need is a wikia account, and then you can start adding information. Help the community by keeping all information updated. Both currently are going through big fix-ups.

However do make sure to keep everything factual, only include information which you know is true, make it tidy and use good English. Also please don't add the entire lore of doctor who and wotw to the wikis. There are other wikis for that stuff. Please just leave it to dalek mod things. It is a really fun way to share your knowledge so I highly recommend doing this! For the WOTW wiki you can even receive a discord rank in their discord for helping!

Becoming Staff:

This is probably the most wanted option out of all the ones on this list. This means it is often very oversubscribed and it is difficult to be chosen as a staff member. My top tips to become a staff member are: Don't ask staff about your application, be a polite and active member and finally, follow the other tips on this list. If we see you are doing these and really want to help the community, then it helps us see you'd be a great staff member!

If you would like to apply then apply here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBmlKgk7JrW2UAKkqe5iPaF4ceIANUWrXArIFYHwLuorKpWA/viewform?usp=sf_link. Just for information, I received trainee a YEAR after initially applying so it's not a quick process.

Events:

This is my personal favourite way to help in the community. Running Minecraft and discord events. It's such a great way to bring the community together. Examples on Minecraft are the Christmas Event or Halloween Event. Discord examples could be quizzes! I’ve always wanted to run the Chase on the SWD Community discord!

You are always welcome to make your own events and if you need any help, just let me know! I always like supporting players making events! I was even thinking about making a player based events team soon. Let me know what you think about this idea below!

Suggestions:

Do you have fantastic ideas for the mods! Then submit your suggestions to SWDTeam for them to add to the mod! You can suggest features for Dalek Mod here: https://swdteam.com/forum?p=topic&tid=14 Make sure to follow the format and make sure your ideas are well thought out first. They can't be too op or complex, they need to follow normal Dalek Mod formats.

Advertise:

Share Dalek Mod, WOTW mod and their servers with your friends! We always love growing the community so please do invite your friends to join in the fun!

Help others:

There are always new members to the community who need help! Maybe lend them some resources on a server, or give them a tour of the discord! It's also nice to be nice to others.

Top tips of things NOT to do:

Mini Mod - This means doing the job of staff, when you aren't staff e.g. telling people off for swearing. Please don't do this. Just report it to the staff team. We are here to deal with that stuff.

Just be helpful so that you get staff - This doesn't work. As someone who has tried that tactic before in the past, I promise you - it doesn't work. Just follow my simple tips and I promise you it will go much better.

Well these are a few ideas of how (and how not) to help the community! We love all the SWD communities and it's great to see them being so friendly!

Got any other ideas? Let me know below!

Ben

Wait, about the staff thing. What are the 'minimum' requirements? Like age, time spent in the community and stuff (if you know)

Well I got staff about a year into the community, but that's not per-say a requirement I believe

Something like age, is though, 13+ is the required age because if you are under that age you can't use Discord, which is a big thing for staff.
