[Suggestion] TARDIS Panel Functions

Name of Feature: Tardis Panel Functions

Description: Gives each model panel of the tardis its own use

Lore/Brief Background: Its seen in every tardis flight that the different panels on the tardis aren't just there for good looks and have actual functions.  first i'll do toyota panels then i might do coral panels later.

How does this affect gameplay: every panel would do a specific action that i will describe in their own spoiler

Image(rough sketch/draft acceptable): none

Note:  not all panels were given an exact function in the show,  some in this suggestion will be alter'd or added to increase usefullness or prevent from becoming OP.

Power control(front panel)

Show content

this is the first panel you see when you enter the toyota tardis,  this panel toggles the tardis's power system on or off.  If this panel has been toggled off then the tardis will not be able to enter flight panel,  demat,  or remat.   If you shut the tardis power off while in flight,  the tardis will make a strained noise as if its being forced to land and then will shut off.  You will no longer be able to call,  or interact with any other panel in your tardis until you turn the power back on.    if you attempt to do anything with your tardis while the power is off, you'll get a message in the chat saying "Your Tardis' Power is off!"

the 3 front panels of the toyota tardis would work like this.

Telepathic panel

Show content

being named such,  the telepathic panel must have something to do with telepathy.  Which means communication by the mind or by thought. In the show the ridges in the panel are touched to go into a specific point in time,  obviously we cant do that in minecraft because we cant read thoughts.   so in placement of that we could just tell the tardis to go somewhere in chat,  with dimension,  and coords,  and it would go there,  being similar to handles commands and not showing up in the actual chat.

this will only work if this panel is present in their tardis.

Tardis Materialization Control

Show content

The two levers already have their function in the mod,  and do it well,  so i'll only have to do a function for the helm piece

Helm functions: The helm is the controls between the two materialization control levers in the back of the console.  The helm could allow you to lock your tardis from the inside, or deploy the force field around your tardis if it gets added back in! Or,  this could be used to change the chameleon circuit instead of the monitors. ( not 100% on that part because the chamelon circuit is almost never changed so i dont know which panel would do so )

if your tardis is locked while you are inside, you wont be able to leave.   you'll get a message saying "unlock the doors!"

The materialization control panel includes these 3 parts

 Communication Panel

Show content

The communications panel is the tardis communication system (wow i just blew your mind didnt i)   this could be used as a chat room with other tardises,   by searching a username in the game ( implied for server use)   it would show the tardis(s)  owned by that player,  allowing you to call one of those tardises,   if the receiver answers the call,  it would be like a 1 on 1 chat.  If  MC is able to handle it,  you could invite up to 3-4 people into one chat room and have their tardises communicating with eachother

Monitor panel

The developers Implemented the function of this panel perfectly

i just made a section for it so people wouldn't think i forgot it.

Crank panel

from what people are saying,  this is the toyota's helmic regulator.     ._.

I dont want the page to time out,  i'll add each panel along as i go

The Telepathic Panel was not for locking your Tardis and whatnot at will, in the episode 'Listen' Clara puts her fingers into the rubbery grooves of the panels and it tracks where she's thinking of in time. It was like a mental control for the Tardis.

The left, golden-based lever is not the handbrake. If I am right it functions as power control for the Tardis. I'd assume that the two levers that make up the Handbrake control Time and Space in movement/materialization.

strange... in about every official doctor who game i've played they've reffered to that golden lever as the handbrake...  i'll fix that immediately

actually I also always have seen the gold lever portrayedas the handbrake and the other as the throttle, also in the show the doctor and clara pull down both levers to take off

I could be wrong......

I'm fairly sure though.

I really love these ideas, I hope they get added.

It would be awesome to have this kind of interaction when operating the TARDIS.

I like this idea. The TARDIS had alot of functions already, so it would be nice to not have to go though the GUI in order to access them. I have some Ideas on some things though.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Rather than being an Easter egg, the Communications panel could be used as an in-built TARDIS mail system. You could send other TARDISes messages, which other players could look at. So rather than communicating with other players, your sending a message to other TARDISes which anyone inside can read. Maybe you can also send yourself reminders for roleplay and organisation.

Another function the communications panel (a different section of it) could have is the ability to Scan the outside area. Not the Monitor type scan where you see an image of whatever is outside (though I hope that is eventually added), rather this panel would tell you some useful things e.g Does the outside area have air? How much radiation is there? Is the Gravity low or high? This function would answer all those questions.

THE POWER PANEL:

There are two big switch on this panel. One could be the power switch you mentioned while the other one could be the locking switch you mentioned in the Demat section. I feel this could free up a bit more space for more functions. The middle section of the control area could be used for the Chameleon circuit.

Thats just my thoughts though. Feel free to add them.

I've heard the crank panel is called the "Helmic Regulator", which controls the accuracy of the TARDIS whilst in flight.

If implemented, the Regulator could determine how far away you land from your intended destination eg, if it's used too much, you'll land far from the destination.

It could also stabilise the TARDIS in the Time Vortex if it is ever added.

But I could be wrong about the crank being the regulator.

[EDIT: Sorry if I necro posted >.<]

I think you're right about it being the Helmic Regulator. Also I really love these ideas, however, the two leavers at the front panel, one is for the power and one is to lock/unlock the doors from the inside of the Tardis. I like the idea of having the communications panel work for sending messages to other Tardises and the idea of the monitor screen from @drwhofan111 and finally I think it's a great idea to implement the ability to toggle the force field with one of the switches I don't really like the idea of the chat with the Dalek and Cyberman because the Dalek seems too much like a troll and might piss some poeple off. As always... This has my support. :D xD

As Update 46 is rolling out, new panels are being added. Maybe it's time to update this thread to include some new ideas!

Hartnell TARDIS

(Image may not be consistent)

Communication Panel

Show content
It contains a communicator (of course), the chameleon circuit controls, hostile action disposal system (HADS for short) and the Gallifrey recall system etc.

HADS and the Gallifrey recall system could be used as part of the story mode, while the communicator could act as a built-in TARDIS mail system as shown above

Diagnostics panel

Show content
It contains the power control.

As demonstrated above, with the TARDIS power systems turned off, all systems shut down, no dematerialisation, no communication system. But if there is a power level setting implemented into the mod, turning off the power systems could potentially restore energy levels.

It also contains life support systems, which also can be used in Story Mode

Fabrication Panel

Show content
It contains databank access and a fabrication dispenser (aka the thing that dispenses your screwdriver).

These two can be a part of the story mode, with the databank telling you what next mission is and the fabrication dispenser dispensing your screwdriver. The databank could also act as an in-game wiki

Helm Panel

Show content
It contains a door switch, dematerialisation switch, a helmic regulator and the handbrake.

If Smaller on the Outside (SOTO for short) was implemented, I'll suggest that the rounded doors connected to the exterior of the TARDIS to be opened and shows the outside of the TARDIS. The exterior doors could also open.

The helmic regulator, as mentioned above, could be used to determine the accuracy of fight in the TARDIS. I suggest a system that the higher the accuracy, the more power it consumes?

The handbrake could act as an emergency stop, The emergency stop would ring the cloister bell while in flight, and dematerialise the TARDIS between its starting point and its destination. While not in flight, the TARDIS won't allow you to dematerialise or fly

Mechanical Panel

Show content
It contains a locking down mechanism and telepathic circuits.

The locking down mechanism could either be a complete shutdown of all systems or simply a locking mechanism.

The telepathic circuits could allow the player to control the TARDIS in chats. For example, say "TARDIS, go to 0 90 0 on Current Minecraftia", and the TARDIS would materialise at X: 0, Y:90, Z: 0 at the current period of Minecraftia.

Navigation Panel

Show content
It contains the monitor and the fast return switch.

The monitor acts as our current Dalek mod monitor, while the fast return switch returns the TARDIS to its approximate location and time (which actually returns the TARDIS to a 100-block range in each direction of the previous location. A rare chance of about 0.5% would materialise the TARDIS in a different era, and a 0.1% of actually being on a different planet or dimension)

This is my suggestion on the Hartnell TARDIS Panels, please give some suggestions to improve the idea.

As I know, the TARDIS uses Zeiton-7 crystals to travel to one place and another in the Dalek mod, but the power level system I've suggested is different from that.

TARDIS power system:

Show content
The power system what keeps the TARDIS systems going, i.e. navigation systems, life support, HADS etc. The power (i.e. Artron energy) is generated by the eye of harmony (If they are going to plan that, that would be best. If no, then let's assume that the TARDIS generates energy gradually) With sufficient power, some TARDIS systems are automatically enabled while still generating power (life support, databanks, locking down mechanism, communicator, recall system, telepathic circuits etc). Some systems drain power when enabled and have limited uses in a certain period of time (dematerialisation, HADS, fast return, helmic regulator etc) This allows an increased level of difficulty in the game and exploring.

Dematerialisation and fast return are quite special, you need both Zeiton-7 crystals and power to operate. This increases difficulty and prevents overpowering.

The rate of power regeneration changes linearly with the difficulty

As a reference, the power system could be as followed:

  • Energy regenerates at a rate of 0.5% per second for peaceful, 0.2% for easy, 0.1% for normal, 0.05% for hard.
  • Dematerialisation and fast return drain power at a rate of 5% per trip for peaceful, 10% per trip for easy, 20% per trip for normal, 30% per trip for hard.
  • HADS drains power at a rate of 10% for displacement and 20% for disperal.
  • Helmic Regulator drains power as an add-on to power loss per trip: An additional 2.5% would be drained with 25% accuracy, additional 5% would be drained with 50% accuracy, additional 7.5% would be drained with 75% accuracy, and additional 10% would be drained with 100% accuracy

I wish this was a real feature! D: IT would finally give more use to both the TARDIS and the panels!

I fully support 100%

The only inaccuracy I can see with Jh's work is the console pictured isn't the Hartnell (original) console. It is actually the 2nd console in it's altered stated used during the 4 and 5th Doctor's runs.  Other than that, good work.
