Hi there,
This suggestion introduces several systems that can be implemented on the DMU Public server, or even both servers if necessary. It tries to identify flaws in the current system through this player's observations and attempts to address them.
If you have any suggestions to improve/ point some flaws this please feel free to comment below.
Please see below:
Contents:
Credits as Currency
Description: Using the "credits" (Introduced in U30 for 1.7.10) to be used in the DMU Public server.
Function: To be used as currency to buy items in the server.
How this should be implemented: (After readding credits into the mod) This will replace iron as the currency system.
How players can obtain it: Each player will be given 500 credits when they first join the server.(Final amount up to SWD)
The same will go for existing players.
I'm thinking we can have a reward system that gives players credits by helping other community members with their issues. That way it'll teach less mature ones how to react to certain situations and not spam the server chat/SWDForums etc.
Value of credits(final amount determined by SWD): For the transition into credits, maybe 2 iron could be worth 1 credits. This way existing players can still trade iron for credits, but are discouraged from iron farming as iron will be worth less than credits. Finally this trading stage will be only be valid for a certain amount of time, to further discourage use of iron farming to trade for credits. Perhaps there could be an announcement on the SWDForums or something to notify players about the changes so the iron farmers are aware that their methods are obselete.
Why this should be implemented: Iron, the current form of currency has a flaw where players are able to harvest them from other sources such as iron blocks in Tardis interiors or admin builds.
With a new currency that cannot be mined or harvested through disapproved methods (farming) there will be less iron stealing/griefing issues on the server as players can no longer get iron by stealing iron blocks. This also means (hopefully) the 2010 Tardis interior can be purchased by users again, as it is a popular and well-made interior design.
Server reward system (WIP idea, will think more about it)
Description: Making a system which allows players to earn the above currency by learning to be considerate community members/server players
Function: To improve the mindset of SWD users and to introduce a SWD-approved way to earn credits, as credits currently isn't an ore/block you can mine.
How players can obtain it: For the former the player can earn credits by showing good behaviour. Other methods like completing missions for role-play organisations could also earn the player credits.
Examples:
How this should be implemented: The system will have a set of achievements a player can unlock, like the vanilla Minecraft achievements system.
In terms of how the server is able to tell that the players is doing all the above things, I'll need to think more about that.
These achievements can be set by admins or Role-play organisers. (UNIT, Torchwood)
In these role-play organisations the acheivements will be in the form of missions the organiser makes. Upon completion the player will be given [x] amount of credits decided by the organiser.
Why this should be implemented: Many new players or even frequent players of the Dalek Mod/DMU Servers tend to ask silly questions that have been answered many many times by SWD members or community members. E.g. modelled consoles, Ranks not updating
Then again this issue is caused by the Dalek Mod not having a central hub of information and also the players' ignorance in actually researching the answer in the SWD/Minecraft Forums, which are currently the best form of obtaining information.
Quests (By Derpy N, his post here.)
Description: As a follow-up suggestion to a credit-earning system, TheDerpyN
Function: Introduce a SWD-approved way to earn credits, as credits currently isn't an ore/block you can mine.
How this should be implemented: The quest system could a statue/hologram at spawn, which when right-clicked on brings up a list of missions/quests that the player can complete. These quests can earn certain rewards, like [X] amounts of credits or some other item. (What quests these are not specified by TheDerpyN yet)
The player can start a quest/mission by typing a command:
/questjoin_[Quest name]
After execueting the command confirmation message which the player has one more chance to decline or accept the quest.
An in-game chat message will display when a player confirms and starts a quest
E.g.
"[player name] started quest [quest name] for [reward]
Why this should be implemented: This could be a more role-playing style way of earning credits, as some players prefer this way. This is also an alternative to the reward-system where players can earn credits by helping staff/the general community.
Banking System
Description: As a follow-up suggestion to implementing credits there could a system which allows players to store some of their credits and a way to transfer funds more securely. (inspired by currency system of now defunct Unofficial Dalek Mod Universe server by 11th_Doctor and Twelfth Doctor)
Function: To help players store their precious credits in case they die/items get stolen etc.
How this should be implemented: The banking system can be series of commands which the player can use. There will be four commands in the following format:
[Command] Function
/view_bank Allows players to view how many credits they have in total. It will be displayed in the chat as "You currently have [X] credits in the bank and [X] credits on hand.
/give_credits amount [X] Allows players to transfer some credits into the inventory for use.
/store_credits amount [X] Allows players to transfer some credits into the bank for storage.
/transfer_credits [Player name] amount [X] Allows players to transfer/pay a certain amount of credits to another user more securely. A message on the patron's end will be "You have transferred [X] credits to [Players's name]. To confirm the recipient will receive the chat message "You have been given [X] credits by [Player's name]"
Staff will be able to view any users' bank account using the command:
/banksee [user]
They may also take out/insert any credits using similar commands
/banksee [user] add [quantity]
/banksee [user] remove [quantity]
Finally when at SWDMart or an official server store, after purchasing the player will have the payment extracted out of their bank account, so the player will have the confirmation message. "Thank you for purchasing at [Store name] [x] credits has been taken out of your bank account."
Why this should be implemented: As with any currency system, items can be stolen if stored in a chest, so there needs to be a secure method for players to store and transfer funds.
Store System (WIP idea)
I've noticed players who keep have to type "tahnk YOU for purchasing at [Store name]" all the time which can be inconvenient at times. Additionally I was amazed by the selling/buying system at SWDMart, with the red [Buy] text on the signs able to take payment and give an item to the player. I want to improve/ add onto the SWDMart selling system and make it available to all sellers on the server.
Description: As another follow up to buying items at a store, there could a fourth system for players who want to set up a store.
Function: To make purchasing confirmations more convenient for store owners and to make transferring of funds more secure.
How this should be implemented: The store system can be again, a series of commands which the player can use. There will be four commands in the following format (same as above) :
[Command] Function Result
/set_store [x y z] [Store name] Allows players to setup a store at a certain location and have a store name
/remove_store [Store name] Allows players/ admins to remove the store's existence if they need to move, etc
/sell [item name] quantity [X] Allows players/admins to sell a certain item without having to drop it to the buyer, as the item may be intercepted by a passing bystander.
To be typed on a sign. Items specified by the sign will be taken out of the seller's inventory and "stored" in the sign. The Sign will then display to both the seller and buyer:
[Buy]
[Item name]
Quantity: [X]
Stock left of item: [X] amount
This was inspired by the [Buy] text on SWDMart from 28/12/15 which gave the player the item they wanted and took how much iron from the player's inventory.
The buyer of an item will receive the following message, "Thank you for purchasing at [Store name] [x] credits has been taken out of your bank account." As with the seller he/she will receive the message "You have been given [X] credits by [Player's name]. [X] amount of [item name] has been sold"
/add quantity [X] [item name] Allows seller to restock the store with certain items. The amount of stock left will be updated.
Why this should be implemented: This way, in conjuction with the banking system, the seller won't have to always type the above.
Credit/Inspiration:
brickkid for his suggestion to add a better currency system, inspired me to make this.
Currency system of now defunct Unofficial Dalek Mod Universe Server by 11th doctor and Twelfth_Doctor.
Update: Slight formatting fix. Going to work on getting the reward system idea improved.
EDIT: added section on iron-credits temporary trading scheme for the transitioning period.
Thanks guys.
Update 1/1/16:
Store System might need to be improved. It's slightly hard to read at the moment. (And yes I'm trying to get the thread back up :P)
50ap5ud5 This Is A Great idea then We can get the 2010 Tardis back on the server I miss that tardis
Fantastic idea! Credits are a good idea. The shops seem like a good idea. I have also added something about shops on a post about a new spawn. I think this will work quite well with my idea.
Earning them by obeying the rules seems a bit unrealistic. I know Minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic, but it just feels odd to me. I also think there should be a job system where you earn credits by doing a certain job you are supposed to do. Yeah, like a rank that shows your career. Okay, I should stop putting all my ideas up.... If I keep doing this the forums will be flooded with unprofessional and random ideas I just thought of on the top of my head.

True, it would be hard to get people to always obey the rules. Maybe you can just earn credits from doing tasks for staff, like you said. It's just that a lot of people on the servers grief etc. so others complain and it makes the server chat very very full. Etc and it irritates me a bit.
Maybe we could combine our ideas! May I have a link to your post?

Sure! Also, I think we should come up with a different idea that could allow people to obey the rules.
