If there is one thing the wotw mod is known for its martians. And what are martians for? Killing you! However the booms and the bangs can get annoying and scary. So how does one succeed in existing for more then uh.. I believe the record is 2 and a half hours. Well here are some options you can try!

So you have spawned in, cool. Now run. You have some time as the world gets progressively harder the longer you're in it so get to the nearest structure, loot it. The mod has lots of structures to loot so explore, I would say spend until noon exploring them find the nearest lake/mountain/ocean/forever autumn. So for each one there is a different option.
Mountains: So best idea, go into the highest point of the mountain and make a base their. Then less martians are in reach of you and mining in mountains will give you emeralds so that's always a plus. Dig down into the mountains and then to the edges giving you multiple escape routes. Maybe even turn them into full rooms, perhaps modern with large white windows in the mountains ect. 
lake: Here is my idea for this base. Two words. OIL RIG.  Right, that sounds odd but listen here, this idea came from the later episodes of a Minecraft tail from 2013. This mod adds oil so it isn't out of place and lakes make it harder for martians to spawn and get to you.  Now the main part should be an underground base and mine combination since you can get food from mining.
Ocean: So you have spawned, run to the ocean gather everything on the way. Now make a chest on the serfice and put your stuff in it. Then you find an underwater ruin or shipwreck and clear out the water. Boom base. Few martians will be able to get you there. And then the next day bring your stuff there and start heading downwards.
Forever autumn: Just go down. Underground town. Just do it.  Safest plan. 

Next up find a village. Explore a bit. But be careful, This is still an invasion. Now don't go too far. You still don't want to be out at night. Once you find  a village. Go back home. But keep the coords. 
Once at home it's time to really use that mine. Mining is a huge part of this mod and- I forgot about the diaries. Get one of those. And paper. Now go mining. When you see a new block research it with your diary. Once you have decent armour and weapons head back to the village. Trade a bit, research on your way.  It's also a good idea to have underground tunnels to the village incase you come under fire by martians as well as multiple entrances into the village incase you're attacked. 
So next up is more mining and trading. Strengthen yourself. Upgrade your base. Free style.  Minecraft is your game. So let's now go over what happens when martians attack:

Actually now I think about it your best option is probably just run. I hear any sort of explosives work well. Uh. Ok I have never killed a tripod before.  SO here is how I was told me to kill martians:
"1. enable hotbox shower 2. Get under tripod 3. kill it from underneath." -Tea Dalek 
"Sniping them from a distance" -Malitino
"get in the water and kill it. that's how I deal with bombarders" -Soss the other terminator
So now you have some ideas for bases, what to do when you start of and what to do when martians attack! But remember this is your game so don't stick to this article too much. Also remember that you are going to die at some point so don't get angry when you do.
