Updating The Dalek Mod to 1.17.1

Hello, I am asking if the devs could update The Dalek Mod to 1.17.1. I understand this is a big ask as with some major minecraft updates come some big changes and I understand that (even though there is a small difference in the updates) there is still a lot that goes into updating a minecraft mod.

I believe it would be beneficial to update the mod as some of the community, specifically those who play on M1/M2 Macs, are unable to play forge 1.16.5 anymore due to the new MacOS Ventura update. This update changes the way minecraft works and makes forge 1.16.5 incompatible with these devices. I have been playing a single player world with my brother and since the update I have been unable to play with him and I am asking if it is possible for you to update the mod to allow a portion of your community to play The Dalek Mod once again.

Again, I understand this is a big ask and I completely understand that the devs are really busy working on the mod and have their own lives. I would be truely greatful if you could make this possible.

I have attempted every possible way to get forge 1.16.5 working on M1/M2 macs and it has took me two whole days and I still cannot figure it out. Here is my reddit post if you wish to see what I have attempted: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/ydb4oa/minecraft_forge_exit_coe_255/

Thank you for reading this.

If i had an m1/m2 Mac, my best bet would try to get at least windows on it even if they stopped supporting boot-camp. Ive seen videos that have done it so it may be an option worth considering. I wouldn't even wanna play a darn game on MacOS because of how shit Apple is at compatibility and  most games that can run on Mac aren't that optimized. Tbf the MacOS is mainly a work OS for many.

Hi, I get where your coming from but the reason I have a macbook is so I can develop games and test them on both MacOS and partially windows (with crossover). I did test windows 7 and 10 (including Windows on Arm) with UTM which is a virtual machine software but there are a few constraints with it and playing games through it. Crossover just does not like minecraft java edition aswell. Bootcamp is not an option anymore but I was considering running linux via the method you described but there are more drawbacks than benefits when dual booting linux such as not having the option for simple things like audio and there are no stable drivers for dual booting linux at this point in time.

I posted this thread as more of an idea rather than it coming to reality as I don't think the devs would have time to do it. However, I have decompiled the mod and I am attempting to make a working (or at least half working) version of the mod for 1.17.1.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts however and for the "most games that can run on Mac aren't that optimised". That is not down to apple, it is down to the developers to put time and effort into making the games compatible such as how minecraft 1.19 is compatible with ARM processors where before we would have to the rosetta compatibility layer.

ARM macs are a relatively new thing and more applications are being ported over all the time and it is said by 2024 all applications that are still being developed or updates will be natively ARM compatible.

By the way, if anybody reads this and wants the 1.17.1 version of the mod. That's if I can get it to work. Please stay up to date with my profile as I am planning to make the mod available somewhere on the forums. I am not adding any new features/removing any features, just making it compatible for 1.17.1 for people who are having the same issues as me.

Thank you!

Do you have the mod owner's permission to update it to 1.17.1?

Of course you get involved. No I do not have permission however before you say anything I have a few things to clear up on how I was planning to tackle this:

1. I was going to update the mod

2. I was planning to give the mod (including the source code) to 1WTC and post it here AFTER I help fix the mod for others to play

3. I am not changing ANYTHING apart from patching the mod for 1.17.1 and fix any issues that may occur.

This is not breaking any rules and all I am trying to be helpful as stated in my posts I understand the devs are busy doing other things. All I want to do is make the mod accessable again.

If they wanted to update to mod, they would have done already. Unless you have explicit permission from them, you shouldn't be doing anything with the mod's assets, files and code.

They wouldn't have done it already though. This issue is really new due to how MacOS Ventura works with their graphics. There used to be workarounds but not anymore. I understand that they may need to give me permission however if 1WTC chooses not to publish my fix then thats up to him and my updated version will NOT be uploaded. I believe that what I am trying to do is just useful to those who are having the same problems as me and I think trying to help the community this way is beneficial.

I get that you're trying to fix an issue, but you can't just tamper with other people's work, no matter what you intend to do with it.

Okay, I will listen and stop work on it. I am not deleting the code however. I am going to message 1WTC, explain what I am planning to do and then I will come back here with the response.

Whilst I appreciate the thought behind what you wanted to do, we do not give you permission to do so, the mod is closed source for a reason and we do not support people decompiling it

Also I would like to add that we are planning a 1.18 update in the near future

Okay, I will stop work on it and delete all files. Thank you for your response.

what about 1.19?

Sorry I forgot to share my thoughts on this yesterday. I know updating fabric mods from 1.18 to 1.19 is hard however I cant be sure with 1.16 to 1.18. It could be possible that there are issues/difficulties updating further than that without having to basically remake the mod from scratch. This is just a guess however and you shouldn't take what I say as fact. Just keep it in mind that it could be a bit tricky when updating the mod to that extent, especially when skipping multiple versions
