Note, this suggestion is WIP. Things are subject to change, and it is far from finished at the moment
Block: Lightning Rod
Crafting: TBA
Uses:
- Attracts lightning during thunderstorms
- Creates a redstone pulse at its base when struck by lightning
- Sends electricity into special damage-dealing blocks (details coming a bit later)
- Attracting any form of electrical attack
I also plan on coming up with something that will allow for a bolt of lightning to be fired between two points. A bit like this
Now you may be asking, why?:
Well, this is a WIP suggestion. I plan on adding information here over time.
What I have so far
- Maybe a few items could be powered using something that requires recharging with actual electricity
- Maybe plates can be made which shock anyone who steps on them if a Lightning rod nearby is struck
- It could create a unique source of power alternate to redstone
- It can be used as a defense against mobs like Silence and (and if added) the MoonBase Cybermen (I think), Bodach, and the Anubians, who use Lightning as a primary form of attack
- It can be an alternative method of charging K9's Power Cells
Random Examples of lightning in application in the Fictional World:
- The Frankenstein Monster was brought to life with lightning
- Lightning was able to give Marty enough power to return to his own time in Back to the Future
- In the Sequal, getting struck by lightning sends the Delorean, with Doc Brown inside, to the Wild West
- Professor Gryffen's Space Time Manipulator once became active during a Thunderstorm in K9 with no one operating the device
- It also created these weird evil apparitions which pretended to be his family, and tried to kill (or at least put into the STM) Jorjie and Darius
- Minecraft's Creepers, and often technology in many fictional settings, become "superpowered" when struck by lightning
- Sometimes things gain superpowers or magical properties when struck by lightning in some fictional settings
- If a mineral of some kind is struck in some stories, it may change it's composition or gain new or different properties
- Pigs become zombie pigmen when stuck by lightning
- Tesla Coils. (The Clash of Clans Tesla Towers were inspired by these)
- These actually aren't something that gets struck by lightning, so it's a bit unlike the previous examples in this way. Though it is an interesting method of manipulating electricity
Related Blocks I'm considering:
- Power Storage
- Cabling (can run down blocks on the sides, unlike redstone. Perhaps an underwater variant can be made too,
- The War Doctor's Tardis Console room can use this as decoration to be more accurate to the show
- Could be used to make these roundels (link)
- Electricity Channelling Plates/Blocks
- Recharge Station (for weapons or perhaps batteries)
- Unnamed, but something that can fire an arc of electricity.
- Maybe a special station for some special ore that has to be electrocuted to be refined and smelted
Again, this idea is pretty new, but I plan on working on it.
