Tardis Desktop theme changing (Suggestion)

Username: drwhofan111

Feature Name: Tardis desktop theme changing system (A quicker way to change interior)

Lore/Brief Background (Or "As seen in" if not from Doctor Who canon): seen in action in 'Day of the Doctor' but mentioned in other stories.

Description of Feature: The Mod has many different TARDIS interiors in it, and many people have suggested ways to make a desktop system, this is my version. When in the TARDIS monitor GUI there would be a new button, which would read 'TARDIS DESKTOP'. It would have two columns, the left column, having the title 'Default' and the right 'Custom'. There would also be a button under each column and a slot on the far right with a small button next to that. In the TARDIS dimension, Interiors would be protected by some type of force field which protects the 60x60x60 area which is the max limit of blocks the Interior can take up. The would work with permissions e.g. the owner could chose if only they can break/place blocks, if add players can break and place and also if un-added players can (If you want to get griefed) (Admins can add themselves via some command). It could also define which TARDIS you are in (As it stands, If I am in my TARDIS and I tp to someone else in their TARDIS, I would still be controlling my TARDIS if I used their Demat lever, this would fix this). To change interior, select an interior (Default ones would have an image to go with them, there could maybe someway to do this with customs?) from either column and click the 'Change theme button' (under the default column) to change the interior. The other button under the custom interior column would be a cancel button.

Custom interiors: to make a custom interior you could 1) Completely build it from scratch (slightly easier but could get griefed and have to rebuild) or 2) use a TARDIS schematic item to save a TARDIS interior build (Renewable but has a cooldown of an Hour and drains Massive amounts of TARDIS power (30% of all power the TARDIS can have).

The TARDIS schematic would allow you to save your TARDIS interior builds and place them into your TARDIS. To craft a custom schematic would be: 1 Iron Ingot and 1 Redstone Dust (The reason it is so cheap is because you might need a few of them. The schematic would work by clicking on one corner of your interior build and then clicking on the opposite corner (Like the /clone command). If you accidently click a block then you can shift click to clear the schematic. The TARDIS schematic item would have a few limitations in that it would 1) not be able to save interiors larger than 60x60x60 and 2) the area must have all the requirements to be a TARDIS interior (a TARDIS interior door, handbrake, monitor etc). When you have saved an Interior on a schematic you can create duplicate schematics by placing the Filled schematic with an empty one to get two of the same schematic. You could also rename a schematic to make it show up with a Custom name. To upload to the TARDIS all you would have to do is put it in the slot in the desktop Gui. You can also dump Custom schematics to save room (by selecting the custom schematic and clicking the small button near the slot) and the schematic for it will appear in the slot.

Community feedback ideas:  After receiving some feedback, I have added some suggestions (Pretty much only Arcs) and removed the everything is unbreakable. Cost (Suggested by Arc): when an energy system (I think I've heard this will be added somewhere) is added this will cost around 30% of a TARDIS' energy. This is so it will be difficult to keep changing TARDIS interior and prevent spam on servers. Cooldown (suggested by Arc): The TARDIS interior desktop system would have a cooldown of 1 hour (real life). This will also prevent mass interior changing spam on servers.

What is the purpose of this:Because it 1) stops the bridging and Griefing of TARDIS interiors 2) This means that instead of players having to go hunting for cords to give to the admins to get their interiors back, they can just get a backup schematic (If they bothered to make on) or save the schematic again, as the original build isn't consumed by the schematic, it would only save the build as it was at the time it was save, not how it currently is and 3) Players could make businesses of making custom schematics of interiors they have built and selling them to people for credits.

How do you suggest we implement it in game: Via the magic of coding. (I really don't know what to put here).

I dont know if i like this. I mean the idea of the tardis blocks being unbreakable is not too good as some people would have to make a schematic in order to just break two blocks for a corridor. Also they could use the tardis to farm materials like this.

You could just get the cords and use the /setblock in the WIP TARDIS panel. I was going to put a little segment on two TARDIS panel commands I came up with for small little things like this, but I felt it would make the main post too messy.

Few things.

1) Unbreakable blocks in the TARDIS Dimension is stupid in some ways. People don't want to take an hour making a schematic of their TARDIS Changes, they want to quickly make their TARDIS theirs.

2) Some people use the TARDIS as their house.

3) Some people have corridors on corridors with tens on tens of consoles.

4) Some people build hundreds to thousands of blocks away from the TARDIS Lineup.

How would it work for 2-4?

1) People can still make a TARDIS theirs quickly, if they have saved a schematic before making a TARDIS.

2)You can still use a TARDIS as house if you use TARDIS panel commands to place essential survival items or (on servers) get admins to do it.

3)Having a bigger area could be achievable if you have two TARDIS interiors  next to each other and a 60x60x60 area is very big and still means that atleast 2 000 000* players can have TARDISes of that sort of size aswell (*by my rough calulations). I'm not really to sure on this one though, maybe if a command was add so you can choose where your interior plot is? (that would also solve 4 aswell).

Think you can format this?

Sometimes, it's just easier to approach something with neatly divided sections with headings vs a giant wall of text. It also makes suggestions appear much more organized and far easier to follow.

Just my opinion though

The reason I didn't do that originally is that its often a pain to keep un-underlining everything, but I have done it now.

My Review-

Things I Like:

  • Method of saving room (Pick two corners, it gets saved as an item, and put into a database that a player can access later)
  • There is a block limit

Things I don't Like:

  • The requirements of "a door, monitor, handlebreak, etc." Not every Tardis room is a console Room
  • Blocks being unbreakable (There are better ways to prevent griefing than having blocks unbreakable by all players. It could cause more problems than solve in my opinion)

Things I feel this Suggestion Could use:

  • A cooldown limiting Interior changes. Someone cycling through Interiors a bit much, not to mention multiple people, could cause quite a bit of server lag
  • A cost for changing the console Room. I imagine using this system would allow for farming. One idea I've always thought of for changing Interiors is that if you want a new Interior, you have to have the resources to build it placed in a container. Just my idea though.

Keep in mind. All of the above is just my opinion

The farming bit is why I made the interior unbreakable though. The 60 x 60 x 60 area doesn't just have to be a console room but there needs to be those things to make it a functional TARDIS. The cooldown is a good Idea, might add that suggestion.

  • It could cause more problems than solve in my opinion

I'll go a bit more into this part.

A lot of people use their Tardises as homes.

Not being able to break blocks would complicate things.

Making minor adjustments, harvesting crops, maybe uncovering a secret chest perhaps, starting a new corridor maybe for more rooms, and many, many other things would be made impossible or incredibly overcomplicated with unbreakable blocks.

I just feel that farming could be dealt with in another way.

Still, just my opinion

Maybe I could make afew adjustments in the regard of crops and other survival type things but my main problem of some of the other ideas I have seen is that they allow farming and taking advantage of a TARDIS' interior.

This idea is very similar to A feature from a Another Doctor who Mod Or it could just be a coincidence. but i still support this

I think I know what mod you mean and I am trying to make my suggestion as different as possible to the other Doctor Who mods to avoid conflict. To me, my suggestion has quite a few differences to that mods system.
