Due to the lack of a thread on the topic. this thread will cover what is considered common courtesy and should be done on the forums
- Quotes- When quoting another user, leave out anything that's irrelevant. Long quotes full of unnecessary information, for example the whole original thread or Russian-doll "replied-to"s make navigating a thread much less smoother than it should be.
- Spoiler posts- Keep any absurdly long amount of text or large images in a spoiler.
- Actual Spoilers- Should not be discussed for 4 days for major T.V. Shows. On the 5th day, you can.
- Profile pictures- It is not required, but strongly advised, you get some picture. Particularly if you plan on using the forums regularly. Having many users with exactly the same profile picture tends to get confusing. If you get a picture, make sure that it is appropriate.
- Stay Civil and Use Common Sense- Which should be common sense
- Swearing- Just don't do it on the forums.
- Capitalization- Please stick to grammar rules for capitalization. Capitalizing the first letter in every word in a sentence can be jarring and an eyesore to those unaccustomed to it.
- Other users- Don't harass, be rude to, or impersonate other users
- Religion, Race, Nationality, etc.- No slurs, racism, or religism.
- Politics and controversial issues- Avoid discussing it
- Depressing topics, Emotional Baggage, Out-of forums drama- More things to avoid
- Communicating with Staff- Don't be disrespectful to them or respond with "k" when they talk to you.
- Staff Profiles- Right below the text window, it says "Please note. This is not a place to post ban appeals." Just like for other users, you don't harass staff.
- Ban Appeals- Unless you were in some way involved in the situation or are just telling the poster to format their appeal, leave the appeal to the staff.
- Release dates- Don't ask. The staff don't know and the devs probably don't themselves until they're nearing completion.
- Throwaway/pointless comments- They belong in the Discord. It's not worth making a forum thread on.
- Spam- Spam is best described as making a bunch of posts over a wide area or a targeted area within a notably short time frame, particularly when most of the comments are throwaway comments. Don't do it.
- Criticism etiquette- Link:Constructive Criticism vs Destructive Criticism
- Don't make placeholder threads. Have your information BEFORE posting
- Necro posting- Don't do it. For those who don't know what necroposting is, necroposting is commenting on a very old thread when one of 2 conditions are true: 1) The thread itself is no longer relevant. 2) The thread may still be relevant, but the comment itself serves no purpose or worth
- Pinned threads and Forums sections- Take some time to familliarize yourself with the sections, figure out what goes where, and apply that knowledge. Same goes for pinned threads. Pinned threads tend to be important information relevant to that section or possibly the whole forums (as this thread is). Do take time to look at them. Some notable pinned threads users tend to overlook are the Server Request Compilation thread (to lessen the amount of threads on the server crashing) and the Ban Appeal format thread (made to make dealing with appeals easier).
