[Dalek Mod Suggestion] Tardis Panels/Block Improvements + the Architectural Reconfiguration System [Tardis Panels/ARS/Improvements and Changes]

Tardis Suggestions Series: Part 9- Tardis Panel Improvements and the Architectural Reconfiguration System

Not to be confused with The Tardis Panels Suggestions thread which focuses on NEW panels.

This thread focuses on changes to existing panels and blocks

Feature 1- Tardis Set Block Command moved to an Architectural Reconfiguration System block

Description: The /setblock command will now be an entirely new panel of it's own

How does it work:

  1. The ARS will have a GUI when opened.
  2. There will be two options: Inventory, and set block
  3. Inventory
    • The inventory will allow you to see which blocks are in the ARS chests, one at a time.
      • There will be arrows to the left and right of the Inventory, allowing you to change which chest you are looking in.
      • You cannot take any blocks from this GUI, only view them. To take or remove blocks, you must go to the respective ARS chests yourself
      • The player can unlink an ARS chest using a "Desync" button on the lower right of the GUI
  4. Building
    •  Setblock
      • Allows the player to do the /setblock command, and the block will be placed in that spot.
      • There is a restriction on what blocks can be placed for survival players
      • It requires blocks to be placed in the ARS chest. If the block the player wishes for is not in the chest, he or she gets the message "ERROR: Block not available in ARS Block Storage"
      • Creative players do not need to place blocks in the ARS and are more free to place blocks
      • Blocks that are not able to be entered no matter what. They will return the message "illegal block"
        • Tardises
        • Any other block that would likely cause a lot of lag
      • Items can also set things in chests with this
        • If the player does /set item (a new command), and the coordinates entered are over a chest with an inventory, the item will be placed inside it.
          • The player can enter a parameter for "slotnumber."
            • This has to be entered for furnaces
            • By default (with no parameter), the item will go in the topleft most slot
          • If the item can't be placed or there's no inventory block there, the player is returned an error message
          • This command requires the item in question to be in the ARS
    • Fill
      • I'm still deciding on this one TBH
      • Configs
        • Can player use the ARS fill function: false or true
        • Cooldown: Default config is 0 seconds
        • Maximum blocks that can be placed in one command
      • On the OFFICIAL server (Unofficial ones would be able to do as they chose), this would only be available to SWD Baes and above
      • Allows a player to do /fill
      • There is a restriction on what blocks can be placed for survival players
      • It requires blocks to be placed in the ARS chest. If the block the player wishes for is not in the chest, he or she gets the message "ERROR: Block not available in ARS Block Storage"
      • Creative players do not need to place blocks in the ARS and are more free to place blocks
      • Blocks that are not able to be entered no matter what. They will return the message "illegal block"
        • Tardises
        • Any other block that would likely cause a lot of lag
  5. This block ONLY works in the Tardis Dimension

 ARS Chest:

  • This is a separate block from the ARS and can be double or single
  • You can place any blocks or items in these for storage, just like a normal chest.
  • There is also a button allowing the player to link the chest to the player's ARS

Purpose:

  1. Allows a player to be able to customize his Tardis from a panel, just like a Timelord
  2. The requirement of ARS chests eliminates the current problem of players using /setblock to get free stuff
  3. This allows a player to more easily move his/her interior to a new place if he or she needs to.
    • For example, the player could remotely create a platform, place some chests around it, and send over some items, and then set the door position there, and be able to build a new interior there.
      • This would be great in the current version, since griefers tend to bridge over Tardises. Having your Tardis in a random location would solve this problem and also allow a player to relocate to avoid repeated griefing by the same party

Any other information:

  1. Water bucket=Water block. After placement, the bucket will return to the ARS inventory.
  2. Lava bucket=Lava block. After placement, the bucket will return to the ARS inventory.

Preresiquites:

  • The team should implement this linked suggestion first. Otherwise the ARS would be very exploitable and able to be used to grief very easily.

Feature 2-  Saving Waypoints (suggested by Kyron13)

Feature: Bookmaked Locations or "Waypoints"

Function: In short, the player will be able to save a location (coordinates and dimension) to a list in the Tardis monitor (preferably with a search-and-sort system that also allows a user to create category folders or create tags for certain bookmarked locations so that he or she will be able to find them easily

Purpose: To allow a user to return to places easily.

Config: There will be a config that disallows or allows this function. Mainly as a way to make repeated griefing a bit more difficult (because I know this wouldn't stop it of course) and also to add a bit more adventure/difficulty if the player or a server owner wishes to have it.

Feature 3- Locking  Tardis Doors from the inside (I'm considering the Door a "panel" just because it would be better here versus in it's own post)

Feature: Locking Tardis Doors from the inside

Description of Feature: There's ways to lock the Tardis fromthe outside in the mod, but no real way of locking it from the inside.

This feature will allow a player to do just that

Operation: This is done by Shift-Clicking on a Tardis door with a Tardis key in hand. When done, the Tardis will either lock or unlock

Feature Suggestion 4- Relative Coordinate Travel

Feature: Relative Coordinate Travel

Description:

The current Dalek Mod Tardis Travel system allows for dimensional travel via coordinates. However, there is no form of relative travel. Relative travel is travel by inputting distance and direction rather than inputting the actual location of a place. This is mostly done in Minecraft with the "~" key before the number entered. The command executed will be applied at a distance equivalent to the number you inputed rather than at a spot with coords you entered.

Any other information:

Not much else really needs to be said on this feature other than that if it is added, it would be very useful. I could imagine it being used very Frequently.

Feature Suggestion 5

TARDIS Spawnpoint Set feature (Again, considering "Beds" as panels for the sake of this suggestion)

Feature: Setting a Player's Spawnpoint in a Tardis

Description/Reason:

Beds, the main way of setting spawnpoints, don't work in the Tardis. This feature would allow a player to respawn in his or her Tardis upon death.

How do you suggest we implement this in game:

This would be some kind of block the player can use.

Feature Suggestion 6

TARDIS Placement Angles (By Shadows43)

  • See Shadows43's thread link

Feature 7- Space/Time Travel With only a Tardis Console and no actual Tardis

As Seen in:The Mind Robber(?) and Inferno

Description of Feature:

  • The player will be able to travel with just a Tardis console
  • To do this, the Tardis console must be placed in the Overworld, and also have a good amount of Redstone powering it.
  • When Activated, it will teleport the player and has a chance to also teleport certain mobs within a short range (including Bessie) to whatever coordinates the player enters, with  a chance of failing. It also has a chance to take the player to a different dimension, even if the player does not enter one.
  • Overall, this is a WIP idea. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to work.

I'll have the details soon

Feature 8- Chameleon Circuit Needs Shells to work.

Lore:

In the Whoniverse, the Tardis has a Tardis Shell Room which appeared in Little Things and The Suns of Caresh. The Shell Room is basically a storage room for the Tardis's Outerplasmic Shells, or Tardis Exteriors as many of us call them. When the Chameleon Circuit chooses a Tardis exterior, it picks a shell from the Outerplasmic Storage Room and uses it as it's exterior.

In the Mod:

In the Tardis Panels Suggestion thread I mention a kind of Special pad which crafted shells can be placed on to upload them to the Tardis's List of available exteriors, and, likewise, removing them from the pads would them from the list.

When the player uses the Chameleon Circuit, the Circuit will "read" this list of Shells and then open the GUI like it does in the current version.

HOWEVER, the Chameleon Circuit will only have Exteriors from the "Shells Available List" and the default TT Capsule Exterior. All other Exteriors will be blacked out in the GUI with a question mark over them.

How do you suggest we implement this in game:

Just like in the description. Crafting recipes would be made for Exteriors, and ones waiting for crafting recipes to be made will still be available through Dungeon chests, the Creative Menu, and the SWD shop.

Any other information: If the player has no Outerplasmic Shells, the Tardis will (by default) be the TT-Capsule shell

More Information can be found: In this thread here link

Feature 9- Fast Return Feature

As Seen in:The Brink of Disaster

Description of Feature:

  • The Fast return switch is a Tardis control which allows the Pilot to return the Tardis to its previous location prior to traveling.
  • In the mod, it could allow a user to return the Tardis to where it was last prior to take off.

How do you suggest we implement this:

  • It could be a Button called "Fast Return" in the Monitor GUI or perhaps something that can happen when shift clicking the Demat Lever with an empty hand or an item that doesn't have a "use" action.
  • When the Tardis Takes off, it can check not only where the Tardis is going to, but also where it's leaving from, and save that information to be used for the Fast Return Feature

More Details coming later

I remember I mentioned this in my Tardis interior forcefields suggestion, maybe we could combine our ideas? https://swdteam.co.uk/forum?p=thread&tid=533

I never thought of people setting their door positions to another's interior, good idea.

I'll make a post for it. BRB

UPDATE: Many things have been moved over from the main thread, and I also added a link to Shadows43's Tardis Placements thread

Maybe the chameleon circuit of blocks could be slightly tinted. As I read somewhere once, The Tardis isn't a very good clone of a police box. Thus neither should this one be.

I think I'm going to return to this suggestion.

Any thoughts on the ARS? Or Time Travel with just a Tardis Console?
