RUINNING A FACTION
Hello SWD Bugle readers! It is I, Potato the worst writer! Ripping off Adapting Acen's article on making a faction, but reverse! So let's jump straight into it!
THE FOUNDATIONS
So as Acen talked about in his article you need to decide if you will make a Film based faction or an Original faction. Once you've done this you should decide what your faction will do, most factions are either roleplay factions, about obtaining money or providing some type of secret service such as war prevention. Oh? You don't like roleplay, well that's ju- Oh, you don't like capitalism? Do not worry my friend we can alwa- You don't won't that either? Well boy am I glad, because the 4th most common type of faction on DMU is the useless faction, a faction only about growing and having a lot of members! No creativity is needed for this faction! Just think of something and keep pilling on them members!
ROLES
Now that you got your faction started, it's time to make a role system! You may think that every role should have a purpose, however this is simply not true. Roles should be made simply because they sound cool or have a cool uniform! You should never think of a function for a role before it's name, because then you won't have lumps and lumps of useless roles to hand out to people for placing a single block! Let's say you are different though, you want to give all your heaps of roles functions, you may think you should separate into branches with each branch performing certain functions and the roles serving as separators to see who has authority over who. But you could also do something much cooler! Simply assign each role totally different functions and just lump them on top of each other! For example: Warrior -> Builder -> Potion Maker -> Higher position warrior -> ect. You may think it's stupid to make roles wildly switch function with each leap. Well if you think that then you're stupid! Another thing you should not consider are verification roles, roles which a player is given before officially joining a faction to prove they are not dead weight. Essentially if a player hasn't ranked up from this role in a certain amount of time they will be kicked from the faction. Doing this would make your faction only filled with dedicated people, however it also means you can't get to 200 members because to do that you would need to carry a lot of dead weight. And the amount of members always matters more then the quality of the members.
THE BASE
The next important step is of course the base! First off pick a planet for your base. You may think the planet should reflect your faction in some way. This however is not true. There are only 2 planets any self respecting faction would put their base on: Earth and Varos and maybe Mondas if you're a nerd. Next off the base design, the base should be related to your faction in someway, however the most important part is the size! Instead of planning the layout of your base and building it accordingly with some spare room for a few extra rooms, just make it as big as you can and never fill the empty space that will make up 90% of your base! The next topic would be secondary bases, some people think secondary bases should vary based on their needed function, I say those people are stupid. Your secondary bases should just be slightly smaller versions of your original base. So your embassy can outshine the entirety of your ally's base!
ALLIANCES
Alliances are one of the most important things in faction wars, if you don't have allies then how will you beat the other side? Therefore you should ally with as many factions as you can. Even if it doesn't make sense with your factions lore, it breaks pre existing alliances or the other faction is full of mean beans. People say you should only ally with factions you really trust, those people are wrong, doesn't matter if the faction has a history of backstabbing, ally with them anyways and make sure to act surprised when they betray you for money or more members.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!
Faction wars break out for many reasons: one side being dicks, force merging, hatred between leaders or just for fun, however you should remember: faction wars aren't about fun, they are about winning. They say there are no rules in love and war, and they are right, boundaries in a relationship and war crimes are just capitalist lies! So remember: Wage pointless wars Absolutely grief the opponents base Report lies to staff or W.A.R. for short. The next topic in a war are allies. One of your allies is helping one side and the other is helping the other side, instead of not getting involved you should kill both sides and take over everyone in the war! Let's say one of your allies got dragged into a war because of an objectively bad thing they did, you shouldn't follow your moral compass and fight for what's right, instead stay loyal to the mass griefers and ruin your factions reputation.
Ending note
You may think that a faction founded on these principals might become unstable as it grows. These people are the same type of people that think it's fair to criticize staff on mistakes or misjudgments, so they should just be ignored and or bullied. Anyways thank you for reading and see you again in 2 months a week!
