Maybe.  Redstone lamps every other block where the torches are, starting in the middle and ignoring the corners, is an alternate design choice instead of torches.  I actually made a mechanism that rotated the lights clockwise before, like it was perpetually in flight.  As for the wood, i may consider that as another alternate build.
