For the laser mode at least, it only fires off the lasers in creative mode, as soon as I go to regular survival it doesn't do anything. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you might need to have ammo in your inventory In order to fire lasers

Yes, you indeed need an ammo as for any other laser weapon.
