Dalek Mod - Future Plans

Thanks for all the hard work you guys are putting in! I can't wait to see what's to come! Regarding further refinements, I do have two questions.

First, I've noticed that the TARDIS planet/dimension selection screen uses a wide variety of styles for how the locations are depicted, with some using still images in wonky proportions and others using spinning dioramas. Can we expect for these to all use one consistent style in the future?

Second, many of the TARDIS interiors use barrier blocks and tranpsparent light blocks, making remodeling them impossible in Survival. Will future interiors remove these blocks?

Thank you again!

Future Plans

In this thread we're going to give a brief overview of some of the things we have planned for the Dalek Mod over the next few updates. We wont be giving away information on everything as some things we would like to still keep as a surprise, but we will talk about some of the key changes.

Tardis Flight System

The current Tardis flight system is alright, but admittedly very basic. Some users like that it's easy to use, however some users prefer the thought of more in-depth flight controls. Therefore starting with the last few 1.12 updates we will be introducing more advanced controls for the Tardis.  Randomised coordinate selectors, dedicated panels for updating location, coordinates, landing offsets, directions etc. As well as this we will also revisit an older feature to allow the Tardis to enter a crash landing mode in which the Tardis will lock on to the nearest location and land in a sea of sparks, fire and explosions!

There will be more additions to the flight system, however more details on these will be announced at a later date.

Models

Currently there are a lot of different styled models in the mod, made by various asset creators over the years. Some of them are still the original models that were added back in 2013 in some of the very first updates.

After a lot of discussion we have decided that we will be updating a majority of the models, all of which will be made by our group of asset creators. The aim is to try and make the models fit more with the game. A lot of the models we currently have were made with far too much detail and as a result feel a little out of place when placed next to default MC models. The newer models will aim to be simplified a lot more and keep in with the voxel MC style.

Tardis Interiors

We have decided that with the update to 1.15 fast approaching that we would update / replace a majority of the Tardis interiors. Of course still keeping the legacy "Dalek Mod 2013 / 2014" interiors for nostalgia purposes. However a lot of the other interiors we feel could be improved and made more accurate. Also ensuring that all interiors have the basic controls needed to fly it and that everything is clear and easy to find. (This is something which is an issue at the moment)

Our interiors are built by our asset creators as well as members of our amazing community, who always pay close attention to details and replicate it as best they can using the limitations of the game.

Unused Items / Blocks / Features

There is currently a lot of unused content in the mod, some of which is content which had started being developed only to be forgotten about, or content which was added for a purpose years ago but is no longer in use.

We have recently been removing a lot of this content, however with the 1.15 update the final bits will be fully removed.

Asset Creation

Finally, we plan on fully releasing our model exporter with an in-depth guide on how to use it to our community. We worked hard putting this model system together to allow the community to make creative resource packs, where they can replace Tardis models, the Dalek models and any other models they want!

The older system did not allow this as all models were hard-coded into the mod, therefore only textures could be changed. However the MDLV3 system allows everything to be easily changed.

With the 1.15 update we plan for all models to be on the MDLV3 system, completely removing the older MDLV2 type models.

I have a question?

Let us know below and we will do our best to answer it for you!

Do you think there will ever be a chance we can save our custom interiors?

thanks

If you mean for the 1.15 version of the mod, would be impossible to save anything

Will the server ever update to a more modern version of Minecraft? And if so, how long until it updates to a more modern version?

Do you think there will ever be a chance we can save our custom interiors?

thanks

If you mean for the 1.15 version of the mod, would be impossible to save anything

so the entire server would have to be reset if it was ever updated?

I understand if you don't, but I thought the paint your own tardis thing was going to be epic, was it discontinued or will it appear in a future update, i know it is old but, it would be epic

i can't wait for the 1.15 update. it's going to be amazing. 1 thing i would love to suggest. for regeneration. can you like add the other styles of regeneration. like the Hartnell regeneration where you are laying down. the tom baker regeneration. and even maybe 12th's regeneration style. where the regeneration energy is all  HD. if you put it that way. also I am So glad that the TARDIS. will now have better flight. where you can. again just a suggestion. like fly the tardis manually and have to hit certain controls to land. i love that feature is coming to dalek mod. Keep up the great work SWDteam. and has always. Geronimo!!!!!!

 Yes definitely

There’s a lot of 1.15 mods that I use that aren’t available on 1.12 so i’m Really looking forward to it!!!

I don’t know if this is a question to ask here, but in the upcoming update (58), is it possible to like have the Hartnell Roundel doors open and use the opening sound like the sound heard in “The Cave of Skulls”, also in update 57, the doors for the Brachi Classic Roundel Door don’t load, I don’t know if that’s a glitch or what, but I thought I’d address it here

Yes you should put this in suggestions.

does this mean when the 1.15 update arrives u will stop updating the 1.12.2 cuz i dont wanna have to remake everything i made. pls keep 1.12.2 up with the major  updates or every 3 updates u do a big update for 1.12.2

Thedarkladdy you can ask staff to save your building as a schematic if it is on a server, or if not then you can save it yourself. Still, the staff might not save your building anyway.

Nothing will be saved more than likely, as almost all IDs changed between 1.12 and 1.15, so transferring builds will be near impossible and not worth the hassle.

with the 1.15.2 update, does that mean that 1.12.2 dalek mod will no longer be availiable?

I believe it will still be available, but it will no longer be updated. For example, if the first 1.15 update was update 61, update 60 would stay available for 1.12, but it would stay at U60. This may be wrong, but this is my understanding.

Of course not. We are planning to continue to support 1.12.2 for a long while
