(Unofficial) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Installation:

Show content

Q: How do I install the Dalek Mod?

A: Click on the links on the front page for your version of minecraft you
prefer. This will take to the SWD official Dalek Mod product page

The download buttons for each version are on the right side of the page in red.

The adfly link has a "Skip Ad" button. Wait about 5 seconds and click on it to download the mod.

There is no installer required for the mod. Just don't click on anything else on the page, that's what can potentially
give you malware.

Once the jar/zip file has finished downloading, just drag and drop into into your "mods" folder in your ".minecraft" folder. The mod should now be installed.

Before you start playing the mod, make sure Forge is installed and make sure you run the vanilla (unmodified) version of your respective minecraft version a few times before installing the mod.

As the game is modded, it does take a little longer to load up the Dalek Mod than if it was vanilla Minecraft.

There is also an installation video SWD Team made for 1.8 Dalek Mod if you want a more visual install guide.

The installation instructions are the same for each version of the Dalek Mod.

.

Q: Do I use Forge or Forge Modloader?

A: The Dalek Mod was coded using the recommended forge for its respective Minecraft versions (1.8, 1.7.10, 1.7.2, 1.6.4, 1.5.2), so please use the recommended Forge.

As for which version of Java, from my experiences Java 7 works with Forge. It's currently in a archived Java site, so Google it and you should be able to find it.

For 1.7.10 recommended forge, 1.7.10-Forge10.13.2.1291 seems to work for me.

For 1.8, 1.8-Forge11.14.3.1450 and up also works.

You can download Forge here. http://files.minecraftforge.net/   A jar file installer works for both Windows and Mac.

Q: I’ve downloaded the mod and now I have malware!

A: Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the mod for your version of Minecraft. Other websites that offer the mod may be giving you outdated and unsupported versions of the mod or even malware/viruses.

There are official download links—the links on the MinecraftForums page and the SWD Store.

Q:Where can I get SWD products early (including the Dalek Mod)?

A:At the moment you can buy the Beta access rank for an account on the SWD website for $2.50 (USD). (You can create one if you haven’t already)

It gives you heaps of cool stuff early, not only Dalek Mod!

Q: Can I join SWD Team/ Can I help make Story Mode?

For other SWD- related questions visit the FAQ section of the SWD website: http://swdteam.co.uk/help/index.php

Q: Can I have Beta Access for Free?

Sorry, SWD Beta Access isn’t for free, but it only costs $2.50 (USD) to get awesome products early! You have to use Paypal to pay though. If you don't have a Paypal account, use it as a guest user and enter in your debit/credit card details!

You can also get it by donating 1WTC Steam/TF2 items,

OR, as I quote Tumblr_Cat,

"First of all you must act like a good community member, be helpful, follow the rules, speak clear english (as this mod is made by british people) and be mature. There's no age restriction but a certain level of maturity is required  Who knows, you may get it one day! :D

 Server Questions:

Q: Is there an official Dalek Mod server? If so, how do I access the server?

A: The official Dalek Mod server is available to both Beta testers/SWD Beta Access users and the general public. Everyone in theprivate server will be in creative. Everyone in the public server will be in survival.

You can also donate to help the server and in return, you can get certain ranks and features on the server such as teleportation and world edit.

Q: How do I donate and what do I get in terms of perks?

You can donate certain amounts of money once to SWDTeam and you can receive different cosmetic commands such as /set-title or /nick

Q: How do i get on the server (Private/Public)?

A:First you need to download the latest version of the Dalek Mode, either from the Dalek Mod product page (for public server) or the "Beta Products" page ( for the private server). Open Minecraft and you'll see an icon with green bars on the left of the single player button and a Dalek icon. The first one is the public one, the second button takes you to the Private server!

Q: I can't get on the server even if its page says it's online! What do i do?

A: Sometimes the server goes offline even though the page https://swdteam.co.uk/product?key=DMUServer says it's online. Just wait until it updates showing the real status of the server

General Questions

Show content

Q: Is this mod the same as the Doctor Who Mod?

A:Well, there is no official "Doctor Who mod". There are quite a few which are Doctor Who-related. The Dalek Mod is one of many.

  • Dalek Mod (this mod)
  • Doctor Who Client Mod
  • DW 1.8
  • Voxel Doctor Mod
  • Weeping Angel Mod
  • Tardis Mod
  • Tardis Decoration Mod

and probably quite a few others.

Q: Which version of the Mod should I use?

A:The most recent update  Update 44 is for Minecraft Forge 1.8. As it has been rewritten from scratch to port it to 1.8, many of the older Dalek Mod features are missing, but all of them will eventually be added.

Q: Can you add this [insert feature]?

A:It really depends on what sort of feature you’re asking for. For features such as Sonic screwdriver variants, these might not be the biggest
priority for the Team so they might not be added immediately.

I would recommend posting to the Suggestions thread here. This is a quickest method of having a team member/ community member responding!

Q: Can I have your source code?

A: No, sorry, SWD doesn’t give out their source code. It will be closed source; it’s too easy for someone to copy the code from the Dalek Mod, modify the models and repost it as their own original mod.

However, if you request some of their models for a mod review or something, that may be possible. Just state your request and give a good reason for it! :)

Q: What is the SWD email for? (support@swdteam.co.uk)

A: It's a support email address, for people with technical issues (i.e. crashes/bug reports). You can find each team members emails in the SWD About page: http://swdteam.co.uk/about.php

Q: How do I turn off the custom Dalek Mod Title Screen?

There's a config option in the .minecraft folder for 1.8 version: CustomTitleScreen:false

Full address: AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\config\Dalek Mod\dalek_mod_config.json

Reporting Issues/Crashes:

Show content

Q: How do I report bugs/ glitches/ problems?

A: If you found any problems please email them to support@swdteam.co.uk or post them in the Dalek Mod thread so that we can fix them.

Do note that the 1.5.2, 1.6.4 and 1.7.2 version of the Dalek Mod is no longer supported therefore SWD Team will not try to fix it unless there are critical errors in that version of the mod (e.g. Breaking the game)

Q: I have a crash report. What do I do? (Summarized by Arcphoenix_1)

A:Before you post a crash report please do the following,

  1. Take out all your mods and load them up one by one to see which one is the troublemaker
  2. Check your list of mods and make sure they are all made for the version of Minecraft you are running
  3. Research the error in the /SWD Forums/Dalek Mod thread for a similar error.

If you still crash after completing the It is recommended to use a format as shown here:

 "Missing" Features (Unported features) :

For any features that haven't been ported from 1.7.10 or lower( E.g. Davros, Story Mode, Generating structures)

Please see ArcPhoenix's post here: https://swdteam.co.uk/forum?p=thread&tid=625

For community members who frequently complain:

Q: When does 1.7.10 for Update 40 Come out? I want it now!!!!!!!

A: This is a commonly asked question-- lots of other people have asked for it has well, but please, stop nagging the team.
If you would like the mod to be ported down to 1.7.10, post them in a polite, understandable way.

Try not to spam or insult the modders/the forum thread, it,

  1. Doesn’t help, the team members will read it when they have time. They don’t
spend 24 hours working on the mod-they’ll get back to you when they can.
    You'll most likely be ignored
  2. A team member or community member is more likely to be annoyed at you or not respond; polite
and well written comments are easier to understand and respond to
than a post with CAPS and posted multiple times.

Please be patient with the team. They work hard on the mod, but it’s for their enjoyment and the communities’ too.
If a large update has been released, the team requires a break. They don't work for the community, they do it for their enjoyment and also for the community to enjoy.

Insulting and spamming the team with useless comments will be ignored, besides if
they do read it, they may delay the ported update due to you carelessly posting a rude comment.

The 1.7.10 version will come later. You can always downgrade to Update 39 for 1.7.10 now if you liked the older features.

Q: I have a suggestion. Where do I post it? Can you add [Feature X]?

A:It really depends on what sort of feature you?re asking for. For features such as Sonic screwdriver variants, these might not be the biggest priority for the Team so they might not be added immediately.

  • I would recommend posting to the Suggestions thread here. This is a quickest method of having a team member/ community member responding!

This way the team may be more willing to listen to your suggestions and may consider adding them.

Q: How do I turn off the custom Dalek Mod Title Screen?

A:There's a config option in the .minecraft folder for 1.8 version: CustomTitleScreen:false

 Full address: AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\config\Dalek Mod\dalek_mod_config.json

Q: What are the Tardis Panel Commands?

A: CuriousPlughole has  made a useful reference post here:

Q: How do I use the TCN Loader?

A: According to Tumblr_cat," The TCN loader works only with Techne models. Downloading them from Techne Online won't work, it also doesn't work with non-Techne models such as Craftstudio and such"

  1. Export your model with the .tcn file extension name
  2. Put the model in the "Models" folder in the Dalek Mod folder. Full address: AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods\Dalek Mod\Models
  3. Open up the Dalek Mod and open a world in SINGLEPLAYER as the TCN loader only works client side
  4. Get the TCN loader block and place it down
  5. Use the GUI to select your model and click "Ok" or confirm or whatever it says
  6. NOTE: This featuer only works on client side, any models that you are displaying can only be seen on your screen, people on a multiplayer server can't see it.

Q: How do I summon my Tardis?

A: First you need to sync your Tardis with your Tardis key.

You can do this with crouch (default: SHIFT) + right click with the key on the exterior.

Right click on a block to summon the Tardis to that position.

Q:Can you still regenerate your Tardis interior?

A: No, in the current 1.8 version the feature has been removed as it "created more problems than it solves" (-Tumblr_Cat)

You can place down a new Tardis which spawns a new interior. Just fly over to your old interior in creative and type the command /tardis-interior-pos (x) (y) (z) to set where the Tardis teleports you. See http://swdteam.co.uk/patch.php?id=27 for a full list of commands.

If you are using Update 39 or below for 1.7.10, just type the command exactly as following, /regenTardis and the Tardis interior should reset itself. Do note that any blocks you used to replace the original interior blocks will be removed.

1.8 Feature Questions: (specific  to Dalek Mod 1.8 version)

Show content

Q: If I place down a new Tardis, is there a way of setting the door to teleport
me to the coordinates of my previous TARDIS interior?

A: Yes, you can use the command "/tardis-interior-pos [x] [y] [z]" to set the Tardis to teleport you to your door's coordinates when you enter it.

Q: After the Tardis has materialized on a planet ( the sound's finished playing) it won't let me out!

A: That's a bug alot of people seem to have on the server/singleplayer. I would recommend relogging and then wait a few seconds for the server to update.

If that doesn't work, try /tardis-interior-pos [x] [y][z] command and screenshot the coordinates.

Then you can ask staff members to get you a new Tardis.

Upon getting this new Tardis, you can enter it

Type the /tardis-interior-pos [x] [y][z] command

Then input your coordinates into the [x] [y] [z] space

Now walk out and walk back in. Your interior should now be set back as it once was.

Q: What are the Dalek Mod Commands?

A: For the current 1.8 version, see the Update 40 changelog .

Q: How do I get the image from the"SWDJ" block? ( Not to be confused with TCN model viewer)

A: As of Update 4 all SWDJ blocks have a texture and can be found in the creative tab SWDJ Images.

You can also rename it in an anvil with these  names here

Q: Which version of the Mod should I use?

A:The most recent update (as of 27th December 2015) Update 41 is for Minecraft Forge 1.8. As it has been rewritten from scratch to port it to 1.8, many of the older Dalek Mod features are missing, but will eventually be added.A partially working spawn code has been added, with Daleks spawning and dropping Dalekanium again.

However, it is still recommended to try the 1.6.4 or 1.7.10 in the meantime for a fully working spawn code.

This is outdated

One quick question... Does the SWD Team plan on updating the mod to 1.8.9 son? Or is there a way for me to play on 1.8.9 with the Dalek Mod? Currently, it doesn't work. I'm not sure why the recent update was for a very outdated version of Minecraft, but I really want some of the mods that are in 1.8.9 to play with the Dalek Mod.

Thanks!

We havent update to 1.8.9 yet due to the fact that there were a lot of changes between 1.8 and 1.8.9 (Code for rendering) which breaks a lot of the models in the mod.

We may look at porting it up to 1.8.9 soon though

Yay! I hope so, but that makes sense! :) Keep up the good work, I love your mod! However, I can't seem to find any Weeping Angels (that's partly a good thing, I'd die XD), so I guess they haven't been implemented into update 45.

BTW, are there any plans for dimensional doors to create the "bigger on the inside" look? I know the DWCM figured it out, so I was wondering if y'all were working on it as well. :)

 Q. "I can't seem to find any Weeping Angels."

 A. They haven't been coded yet for the current version. It was planned for last update; however, it didn't get finished. If it's something the devs are still working on, they may come in the next few updates. For now, they exist in a few of the updates on older Minecraft versions such as U42 (someone correct me on this if I'm mentioning the wrong update) for 1.7.10.

 Q. "[A]re there any plans for dimensional doors to create the "bigger on the inside" look?"

 A. Yes, the devs have been working and experimenting with bigger on the inside (BOTI). How far have are they on on it? I'm uncertain, but it's definitely something to look forward to.

YAY! I'm excited! I've been having fun on your public server, so I'm glad there weren't any Weeping Angels to run into! :D

I can't wait for the new features, I'll consider donating not just for the server perks, but because y'all are doing such a great job and I know how much even a little support feels. Safe time-travelling!

Geronimooooo!!!!

Thanks we really appreciate your donation. Have fun on the DMU servers :D.

So I am planning on purchasing the VIP rank, will that give me the Beta Access perms/benefits as well? I would like to help y'all out, but I don't want to spend money on both VIP and Beta.

Thanks!

 No it doesn't :(

 Aww... oh well....

Greetings. I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to put this, but hopefully, I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. I just have a quick question. I'm considering buying the "Custom Rank" product, but then I saw the "Custom Rank Description" section on the purchase page. What exactly are we supposed to put in there? I mean, do we just directly put down what we want the rank to be, like if a person wanted to be "Master Builder" or "The Rani" or something, and then it's analyzed by a computer program that loads it into your account? Or is it perhaps looked over by an actual person and you're supposed to put down what the rank is and a reason for why that rank was chosen?

The reason I ask this is that I don't want to put down a rank and reason, then 48 hours later (or however long it takes) my custom rank ends up being a string of words that only make up a sentence, that would be pretty awkward if it was, lol.

Just trying to clear the confusion, have a great day. :)

You just type out how you want the custom rank to look. The text, color codes, the works.
If you want to check out the color codes and how the rank would look, here's a handy tool:
